Know what each beach rental label tells you about the view, the walk to the sand, and the questions to ask before booking.

Know what the label means
An ocean view describes what you can see; beach access describes how you get to the sand. Neither guarantees a beachfront location. Check the map and ask about the actual route, including stairs, road crossings and shared entrances.
Match the home to your group
For children, beach gear or limited mobility, the walk can matter more than the view. Ask whether the access route is suitable for everyone and whether it changes with tides or weather.
Rio Rodanthe and Pompous Pelican are two Outer Banks homes to explore. Their property pages make it easier to compare sleeping arrangements and listed amenities before checking current terms with the rental company.
